New Parliament of India

New Parliament Building, "Symbol of a new and self-sufficient India"

The new building will showcase the cultural diversity of the country. The existing Parliament building will be conserved as it is an archaeological asset of the country.

The building is designed by HCP Design Planning and Management Private Limited.

The new building will have an area of 64,500 square meters.

The new building will also have a large Constitution Hall to showcase India's democratic heritage, a hall for Members of Parliament, a library, multiple commission rooms, dining rooms, and ample parking space.

The architecture of the new building is in harmony with the present building so that both buildings complement each other.

The new Parliament House is designed in a triangular shape as it sits on a triangular plot and has three main locations: Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and a mental hall. Also, triangles are sacred geometries in various religions and cultures of the country.

Dholpur stone will be used extensively, as in the existing Parliament, and in some interior parts, red granite may be used instead of red sandstone.

The architectural strategy is to harmonize the two buildings so that they work together.

In the new building, the Lok Sabha chamber will have the capacity for 888 members, while Rajya Sabha will have 384 member seats. The Lok Sabha chamber will have the option of increasing its seating capacity to 1,224 members during joint sessions.

In September this year, Tata Projects Limited won the tender to build the new Parliament building. The new building will be built close to the existing one as part of the Central Vista remodeling project.

The existing building is a huge circular building 560 feet in diameter. The estate of the House of Parliament is surrounded by an ornamental wall of red sandstone or iron railings with iron gates that can be closed when the occasion calls for it. The building has twelve doors.

The new Parliament building will be ready by October 2022 at a cost of about Rs 971 crore.

No Central Hall-

1. The new Parliament House will not have a Central Hall.

2. The design of the Lok Sabha Hall in the new Parliament House is being done so that a joint session can be held there easily. The new Lok Sabha Hall will seat 1,272 people.

Earthquake Safety-

The new Parliament building will also be earthquake-proof. Delhi was in Zone 2 when the Old Parliament Building was built but is now in District 4 as NCR's earthquake risk has increased. In such a situation, the new House of Representatives would be strengthened so that it could withstand severe shocks in Zone 5.

Concept-

The concept of the house structure of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will differ. The theme for Lok Sabha will be the national bird - peacock and the theme for Rajya Sabha will be the national flower - the lotus.

Facilities-

Every MP's seat in the house will have a multimedia screen.

Eco-Friendly construction-

The new Parliament building will use green building materials as a green building. Devices will be installed that will save 30 percent of electricity. There will also be arrangements for rainwater harvesting and solar power generation.

The new House of Parliament will also have special facilities for the media. There will be a total of 530 seats for the media. Both chambers will have galleries for the general public to witness the parliamentary proceedings. There will be a clear view of the house from every seat.
